Shitfaced in Edinburgh

Shitfaced Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Nights Dream, (from the lovely Magnificent Bastards) went up to Edinburgh on the train with my set in a suitcase.

here is a photograph of it (and them) in action.

They got stupendous reviews, and a sell out show. Poop Poop!

Shit Faced Shakespeare

Somehow, I got talked into doing the set for Tax Deductible Theatres show up at the Edinburgh Fringe.

A Midsummers Nights Dream- so cold moonlight colours, trees, and grecian columns. And as they're the Magnificent Bastards, theres some special additions hidden in the wood patterns. Spot the willy.

The show is version of A Midsummers Nights Dream, with a twist- one actor is blind drunk. Hence Shit Faced Shakespeare.

If you get a chance, go and catch it.

Air Your Laundry

Alex Stevenson

Furniture and Product Design BA(hons)

`Air Your Laundry`, 2012

A domestic light fitting for displaying and drying clothes. A poetic response to the practical concerns of a space hungry and tedious chore.

The Degree Show opens on Thursday. Lots to do!

Church Chair- Live Project

These boards were an entry to a Church Chair Competition run by The C of E.

After some lost wanderings, drawing, doodling, and not really feeling it, I decided to go with my personal experiences of having to unwillingly sit through sermons and my elder siblings school services.

This chair serves to address kids shorter attention span, and trying to keep the experience of church a positive one.

Central House- Live Project

These design boards were put together for a studio furniture competition proposal, coinciding with a complete gutting and refurb of Central House, one of the universities buildings in Whitechapel.

It turned out to be a pretty enjoyable project, with research in to honesty box systems, and interaction between peers improving the standard of work as well as community and passion for their subject, and most importantly, the integral place Tea has in our lives. I'm sure I could have done something more charming with the illustration of that idea, but I'm just getting confident about the idea of Boards- something i had never had to do until this year, where us FDA-ers were thrown in at the deep end with 3rd year design students who had been doing it consistently throughout their university lives.

Check out the marker pens, and the sketches with double perspective. And the ideas not half bad either. or the model. Not tooooooo shabby!

AIR YOUR DIRTY LAUNDRY

so- here's my stand. nothing too fancy for this one as its purely for the tutors to mark. The big exhibitions are in a few weeks, so i can iron out (ha!) any problems before then and sort out my presentation graphics and theyre put under the publics scrutiny.

exhibition stand, the smaller scale models in the top
left of the photo

this rendering of a RhinoCAD model (then shoved through instagram
to make it pwetty) isnt mega-accurate. The bulb is much more
lovely in real life, and the metal components are hung
 completely independently to the bulb.

Sketchbooks neatly organised <3

Perhaps i should explain my project. I started to look at clothes horses, a temporary solution that often becomes a permanent feature in a home. That lead to looking at alternative placement for drying clothes. I especially like the language of coat hangers and the idea of glamourising the chore of laundry, and encouraging people to air their dirty laundry in public.

So i produced a light fitting, designed to be a chandelier which you can hang your drying clothes on, or just showcase your favourite shirts. The 'lampshade' changes with the clothing thats been hung on it- changing the temperature of the light in a room, and the dispersion of light.

Friday was the deadline for the Final Major Project- and with a lot hard work, late nights and help from friends- the show for grading went up, on time.
And, by the way, looks GREAT.

Heres some unedited (rather greenish for some reason), snaps of the metalwork for the project- There will be a post up showing what it is actually for soon. Just embrace the odd, beautiful shape of the thing for now.
