Baby Changer

In February I got around to finishing and handing over the Baby Changer which i mangled my fingers while making in December (theyre fine now thanks). Im hoping to pop over and take a couple of photos of it in situ- but heres a couple of ugly Ipod photos.

The first two are in the workshops before it was glued up, and the last one is it sitting in the house waiting to be taken to its new home but you can see it in better detail.

Dry run. and if you look, it doesn't have its top rail yet

Metal spinning

The fruit of my efforts in todays spinning induction. Its such a great process- start with a flat sheet of copper, then anneal it (blast the fuck out of it with a flame thrower, quench it, then shove it in acid) then put it on a lathe, and shape round a former.

I don't seem to have a photo of the 7th designers work, William Banfield, instead William Warren (tutor) has been featured twice for some reason- you should check him out though- his 'Living Dining Set' is a beautifully simple pair of benches and a table which all break down to a coffee table. yes yes yes.

My three legged barstool seems a little bit of a cop out now to look at it, but the aim was to make 4, all slightly altered for different uses. This one was the only to get finished in time- it has nubbins underneath to hang bags or strappy shoes on.

Am I happy with it? not entirely sure yet. Although I like it- I'd like to knock out a few more- get better at turning the tops, more alterations. I think I played a bit safe- but learnt a lot.

Screen Print- week 1

Every wednesday morning for 7(?) weeks, I have a screenprinting inductions free courtesy of the university... here is last weeks produce.

I just like this photo. the patina of things like this is pretty hard to fake.
We turned up with a few ideas in mind- and then got told we could use more than one colour, which blew our minds (of course i know normally you can use more than one colour, but it being the first week of inductions, we thought, you know, start simple) so had to rethink everything. I went with the word 'Procrastination' as it summed up my activities. Although im not sure its going to be very motivating to have pinned in my studio.

We made cut paper stencils, then printed through them- one of the most simple techniques- but it worked AWESOMELY. so in one morning we turned out some beautiful textile prints. Fast and very fun.
